elcome to The National
Pony
Express Monument in Sidney, Nebraska.
This lasting memorial is a tribute to one of the most dangerous and
essential occupations in American history - mail delivery in the wild,
wild west.

ebraska had more miles
of trail
than any of the other seven states,
but had no monument to recognize the state’s commitment and
contribution to the success of the Pony Express, which operated from
1860 to 1861. The national monument,
unveiled June 18, 2010,
not only commemorates Nebraska’s involvement with the organization
but all states along the route.

he monument's unveiling
coincided with the 150th Anniversary Re-Ride conducted by the National Pony
Express Association. Standing on land donated by Cabela's and
constructed by the Sidney Jaycees, the monument recognizes the
important roles of each state, its three founders and the NPEA to keep
a part of America's history alive.

s of it's unveiling,
the
monument was incomplete. Due to the time constraints with fundraising
difficulties, the monument's bronze statue of rider and horse was not
in place. Fundraising is ongoing in hopes of finishing the monument by
2011.
