Salt Lake House

Salt Lake House was located right on Main Street in Salt Lake City at the location of the old Tribune Building. It was a long two-story structure with a veranda in front and a large livestock yard in the back. According to numerous accounts, this station had a beautiful ballroom, a nicely appointed sitting room and bed chambers. After riding the range for a number of days, this had to be a welcome sight and a wonderful place to spend the night. A granite monument with bronze plaques marks the location today.

Deer Creek Station

Deer Creek Station was established in 1857 as a major trading post, consisting of a stage coach station, a store, a blacksmith shop and a post office. It was constructed at the point where the trails crossed Deer Creek just above the creek’s junction with the North Platte River. This was a very popular camping and resting place and an important stop on the stage line to Salt Lake City. The station served the Pony Express and the telegraph before being burned by Indians in 1866.
